Open the door to Port Discover and you’ll find kids—and families—engaged in the fun of science.  Whether observing the tiniest particles with a powerful microscope or identifying the parts of a human skeleton, Port Discover: Northeastern North Carolina’s Center for Hands-on Science provides educational and entertaining science activities for thousands

Science Discovery Kits
Choose from over 20 different themed kits and take off on your own exploration of the sciences.   These kits are updated on a regular basis.   Current kits include:
Animal X-rays,

To Fly!
An exhibit on flight including the popular Bernoulli Blower and the flight simulator.  The  Flight Exhibit is made possible thanks to the Elizabeth City Morning Rotary Club. 

Water, Water…
Port Discover’s changing water tank…from crawfish to regional fish…there’s always something swimming around.   The exhibit is made possible thanks to Dr. Maurice Crawford, assistant professor of Biology at Elizabeth City State University.

Green and Growing
A changing grow box highlighting plants and how they grow.   The exhibit is made possible thanks to Dr. Margaret Young, professor of biology at Elizabeth City State University.

Tools of Science
From microscopes and Petri dishes to beakers and graduated cylinders, learn all about the tools of science.  Observe the tiniest of particles at Port Discover…or bring in something from home.   Made possible thanks to the support of Elizabeth City State University.

Touch-It Table
Ideal for Port Discover’s youngest visitors, the Touch-It Table encourages kids to learn through touching….dirt, bubbles, fossils, snow….the Touch-It Table changes monthly!
